Inside Our Classrooms: A Day in the Life at Little Steps

Step Inside: What a Day at Little Steps Preschool Really Looks Like

Ever wonder what your child will be doing all morning at preschool? At Little Steps, we believe that every moment matters—so we’ve built a daily routine that blends play, structure, creativity, and connection. Here’s a real peek into what a typical day looks like inside our classrooms:

8:30 AM – Welcome Time

We ease into the day with warm greetings, favorite books, and a welcoming song. We count our friends, connect as a group, and get ready to learn!

8:50 AM – Small Group Learning

This is our hands-on mini lesson time. We focus on name writing, letter work, and other early literacy and fine motor activities—tailored to each child’s level.

9:30 AM – Whole Group Lesson

Using the HighScope curriculum, we explore big ideas together—like science, math, social skills, or seasonal themes. Lessons are interactive and age-appropriate, helping kids think critically and ask questions.

10:30 AM – Planning Time

Before jumping into play, children take a moment to plan: “What do you want to do today?” This builds executive function, decision-making, and confidence.

10:45 AM – Work Time (Creative Play & Stations)

Kids choose from thoughtfully designed play areas: building blocks, dramatic play, art, sensory bins, fine motor work, and more. Teachers observe, engage, and support deeper learning through play.

11:10 AM – Snack & Story Time

We pause to refuel with a healthy snack and a great book. Story time supports listening skills, vocabulary growth, and imagination.

11:25 AM – Group Game & Pickup

We finish with a fun, high-energy group game—perfect for burning energy, practicing teamwork, and ending the day on a high note!

Our classroom routines help kids feel safe, successful, and so excited to come back the next day. Everything is structured—but never rigid. There’s always room for laughter, discovery, and magic.
